It means nothing but it sounds good.

Pyewacket

A goth girl is angry against her mum, she invokes a demon to kill her, but she very soon regrets. When you think about it, it’s not far from the scenario of Backcountry. So, why didn’t it work in Pyewacket? Maybe because a drama between a teen girl and her mum is much more boring than watching a dude screwing up his wedding proposal, or maybe because a weak demon scene is less intense than a dude being eaten alive by a bear in front of his girlfriend…

Doom

Friday afternoon, I was talking with my workmate about Doom (it’s ok to slack when it’s almost week-end). Normally, we don’t play the same games, he’s a Playstation guy and I’m a PC gamer. Although, the discussion shifted to something we both have in common: our first contact with the Doom franchise. We both bought our first PC to play Doom II, it was a 486DX2 66Mhz with a Soundblaster 16. I believe that this story is common to a lot of gamers of my generation…

So, when it comes to playing Doom, it’s more than just launching the latest shooter, it’s almost religious. That’s why I didn’t play it earlier, I never found the right week-end to give it the time it deserved. Now that things were finally more quiet, I finally could jump in my space-marine suit and travel to Mars.

As usual, I’m not gonna review the game. All I can say is that the latest Doom is, to me, the crown-jewel of the serie. I love the way you can customize your gameplay by enhancing your weapons and your armor. The mini-challenges to get the runes were also a blast. The weapon I had the most fun with was the heavy assault rifle, equipped with the scope. Omg, demon heads have popped!

While Mars is already amazing, Hell was where I had the most fun. The landscapes are gorgeous and, like my workmate says: “now, we’re going to the party!”.

I’m very happy about the arcade mode because I’m not nearly done with this game!

The Walking Dead: A New Frontier

Clementine is an amazing character and it was a great pleasure to spend a week-end in her company. I really have the feeling to have seen her grow, from the little girl hiding in her house to the total badass she became.

Javier Garcia was also a great protagonist. I’m convinced that he’s the reason why I’ve prefered this season over the previous one.

Even if Soforah’s end is a bit different from mine (more than usual in a Telltale game), I wish that my choices would matter more. Too often, whatever you decide, the story remains the same. I know that they can’t let it go too far, otherwise we would fork too far from the original story, but a bit more freedom would be welcome.

The eternal Telltale recipe has to change! I don’t wanna spend several episodes being bullied by a jerk (Kenny, David,…), just to see him become a human in the last 10 minutes.

A few screenshots I took during my last play through:

I’ve been very entertained with A New Frontier. As usual, Telltale delivers a game of quality. The voice acting, for example, is one of the best in the video game industry.

Being a fan of the franchise, I consider the Telltale serie better than the TV shows (at least better than the main show, which became total garbage).

I’ve just learned that the next season will be the final one… It makes me sad.

Felltotem’s Fall

It didn’t take me more than 10 attempts to get Tugar down, and the worm was down the first time I made it to phase 2. Of course, being ilvl 930+ probably eased the process. The two components that remained challenging were the mobility and the interrupts (Tugar could one shot your pet).

With the help of the WA string provided in this Wowhead guide, interrupting Tugar wasn’t a problem anymore.

I’m very happy to be done with this challenge as I really didn’t enjoy it. I normally enjoy solo content like the Brawler’s guild but the Mage Tower was more about resisting the frustration than really playing my class.

A mirror and a shirt

I’ve been busy on my road to Mythic+ dungeons lately… So busy that I didn’t do much more than going to dungeons and trying to get better gear. On that side, all is well… I manage to perform nicely until M+8 on both my Resto Druid and my Hunter. I haven’t been further, but I’d like to reach M+10 or even M+15 (one can dream, right?!). It’s all a matter of practice and confidence.

Something that I was trying to get for quiet some time was Narcissa’s Mirror. While Another Rat Problem is available sometimes once a day on my druid and my hunter, Soforah only gets it a few times a week… Strange. Anyway, I bought it last week-end and took advantage of the occasion to introduce you to my blood elf: Snory. Now, instead of one arrogant looking blondine, you get two!

Yesterday morning, I was online early enough to be alone in the Brawl’gar Arena, so I took advantage of the instant queues to use my Bag of Chipped Dice and beat as many opponents as possible.

After an hour, I was the happy owner of the Wraps of the Blood-Soaked Brawler . It’s gonna sound dirty, but I don’t think that I’ll ever take that shirt off 😉

An Exile’s Tale

A few weeks ago, I submitted this story to the Path of Exile Talent Competition 2018. Last night, the list of the winners of the contest was published on the forums and I made it to the top 15.

Path of Exile is an amazing game, probably the best Hack’n Slash ever made and I am very happy to know that the folks at Grinding Gear Games enjoyed my story.

All over Wraeclast, you can hear the tales of Kaom, Piety and Malachai, but you’ll never hear anything about the fate of the exiles. Their victories aren’t sung, their deaths aren’t mourned, they weren’t sent here to be remembered. But this story is different, I don’t want to forget it. This is why I’m leaving this for anyone to read at the board of Lioneye’s watch, for this tale belongs to this town.

The night had fallen over Lioneye’s watch and the few exiles who had made it back before the dark were scattered along the walls, hiding themselves from the wind and the rain. Exiles don’t sleep in cosy inns, the cold and wet stones of the sanctuaries are their only beds. Some gather in small groups but most stay alone, haunted by the horror of their memories. A few hours had passed since the light was gone and the place was silent, only the wind could be heard. Even the traders were falling asleep… As for me, I haven’t had a normal night’s rest since I was sent to this cursed place. Everyday, I manage to rest a few hours, dreaming with my eyes open. My instincts don’t let me drift too far and I suspect that they won’t until I have completed my journey.

A terrifying scream boomed through the place. It was coming from the beach and it was so loud that the ground trembled beneath us. At first, we all looked at each other in search for an answer: what kind of creature could make such a sound?

A small group of warriors ran to the beach but everyone else seemed undecided about whether they should go or stay behind the protection of the town’s heavy walls.
And me… I wanted to gather my gear, but I was just as panicked as the others. I had been fighting monsters and things that walked even though they shouldn’t but never had I heard such a scream. At that moment, amidst the chaos, came to me the certitude that if I didn’t go to help the warriors, the fate of this entire town would be sealed.

As another scream covered the sound of the storm, I broke out my stupor and started to motion toward the beach. That’s when I felt her hand on my shoulder. As I turned, Navali peered into my eyes and told me a prophecy, “Tonight you will make a friend. Tonight you will betray a friend”.
Puzzled, the only thing that came to me was “never, I don’t betray friends” but, before I could speak, she was back at her place, staring into emptiness, as if nothing happened.

Another scream and I began to run… The beach was covered with corpses, the warriors had passed before me and had cleared a path. I could see fire and movement ahead. Then, I tripped over a piece of armor covered in blood and pieces of flesh. I recognized the gear of one of the warriors. I looked around me and there they were, dismembered and scattered over the sand. What kind of monstrosity could have done that?

As I got closer, I saw it, towering over a horde of revenants. It was at least 5 times their height, a creature from the sea unlike any I had ever encountered. It had giant legs and tentacles were coming from under its shell. Its body was as large as half Lioneye’s Watch and two yellow eyes were staring angrily at the crowd surrounding it. It was cornered between two sides of a cliff and, at its feet, were laying the corpses of its children. Other smaller creatures were caged and kept captive by a few dark shamans. These evil summoners had been using reanimated corpses to capture the monster’s progeny. That’s probably how they forced it out of the sea. Now, they were trying to tame it. Against such a beast, Lioneye’s watch wouldn’t stand a chance. I wouldn’t last very long either… Maybe, if I could get rid of the summoners and release the babies, the giant monster would go back where it came from. It was worth taking the chance, not that I had many choices anyway…

I fired an arrow, then another and entered full motion, killing the five shamans one after another, the revenants were too busy trying to contain the raging creature, they didn’t pay attention to me. I quickly opened the cages but the toddlers were already dead.

Without the shamans to resurrect them, the revenants didn’t last long. The monster got free and walked in my direction, the ground was trembling under its weight. Only a few feet away from crushing me, it stopped and looked down at the cages, then it stared at me. The rage in its eyes made way for gratitude, probably because I had ended its torment. Then the sadness came back, it lifted up its giant head and moved toward the sea.

I had made a friend.

But then, I saw it. The shell that was covering its entire body had a weak spot in the back. That’s probably why it had been standing against the cliff, to remain protected. What was I to do? Let it go and take the risk that other evil creatures would come and would try to use it against us?
One more time, I fired an arrow, then another. Soon, arrows were storming in the direction of the crack in the shell. Little by little, the armor broke and my projectiles penetrated its flesh. As I was running around keep facing its its back, guts and blood were raining on me. It let another scream out, but this one wasn’t anger, only sadness. It knew that it had been betrayed and that it was going to die.

A few moments later, I was alone on the beach, covered in gore, walking back to the town. Not happy, nor triumphant. I had just killed a friend.

I was expecting Navili to look at me, her prophecy had been fullfilled, but she didn’t even see me as I entered Lioneye’s watch. She was already busy looking at the fate of hundreds of other exiles.

Bestel offered me a reward for my deeds, but I never collected it and I never will. The only reward I deserve for such a victory is this tale, the memory of the day when I betrayed an ally.

Such is my fate, such is the fate of the exiles.

The Nightborne

When the allied races were first introduced at Blizzcon, I was unimpressed to say the least. They felt (and still feel) like a low effort attempt at creating new content. So, when we pre-purchased Battle for Azeroth, I wasn’t in a hurry to unlock those “new” races. Another reason behind my lack of enthusiasm is that the racials of the Highmountain Tauren don’t fit my herbalist druid as well as my original Tauren. So, out of curiosity, Soforah and I went to the Orgrimar embassy and started the quest to unlock the Nightborne.

The quest was more entertaining than we suspected and it felt great to be included in the politics of the Horde. I was proud of Lor’themar Theron’s attitude and I was very happy to see Thalyssar joining the Horde. After all, she was probably my favourite character in the entire Legion story.

As for the Nightborne model, I could use it to compliment my future boosted toon. But I’m still undecided about which class I’ll choose. I still have a few tests to make…

The Human Centipede

I long hesitated before watching it… Well, I should have hesitated a bit longer and decided not to watch it.

I thought that, maybe, behind the disgusting “poop-in-the-mouth” thing, was hiding a well written and well acted creepy story. It isn’t the case. The Human Centipede is a nauseating “what-the-fuck” movie that we’ve cut before the end.

A Dark Song

“A determined young woman and a damaged occultist risk their lives and souls to perform a dangerous ritual that will grant them what they want.” – Imdb.

During the first half of the movie, I was thrilled to finally see a movie that doesn’t feature a ritual performed by four kids, a flashlight and a magic book that they found in the attic of their new house. The ritual performed in A Dark Song takes several months and begins by a spiritual and physical cleansing. The relationship between the woman and the occultist as well as the fantastic soundtrack contribute to build the heaviest and creepiest tension I’ve ever seen in a ritual movie.

As I was ready to see the ritual go wrong and end up in one of my creepiest TV moment, the movie flops. People with floured faces suddenly appear. They are supposed to be demons, unfortunately they feel more like actors from an opera of Maurice Béjart. And, when they finally manage to summon an angel, after 4 months of physical and psychological self-inflicted torture, this is what the woman asks as a favor (warning: spoiler):

The power of forgiveness.

At that moment, the movie was entirely screwed for me. What could have been one of the greatest ritual movies sadly turned into some crappy psychological drama.

With the tension that was built, I could have imagined the ritual going wrong. Since the woman had hidden her true intention to revenge on her kid’s murderers, a demon would have appeared and their immortal souls would have been damned to remain prisoners in the house, trapped with that evil presence for eternity.

Unlike the protagonist, I don’t have the power of forgiveness, so all I’ll give this movie is a two stars. Don’t watch it, please, it’ll only encourage these people making more dramas comouflaged into horror movies.
