Pancakes & Try Outs

It’s Sunday and Soforah is baking pancakes. That sentence alone makes me happy because pancakes are awesome. Pancakes are life!

This afternoon, we’ll be doing a few tests.

As we’re getting closer to Dragonflight, we’re testing a few classes to replace our long time hunter mains. This afternoon, we’ll be giving another chance to the Druid since the class seems to be in a great shape for the new expansion. Also, we’ve always been Druid fans.

Don’t ask me how it happened, but we actually have two sets of new gaming chairs at home and we have to decide which one we prefer. On one hand, we have the Secret Lab Titan Evo 2022, which is very solid and shows a great quality in its materials but feels very hard on our backs and buts. On the other hand, we have the DXracer Formula F08, which is more comfortable but feels a bit wonky and the armrests aren’t great at all.

Voilà, the pancakes are ready. I’m on my way to food heaven…

Edit 1: The pancakes were delicious!

Edit 2: We’re not sure that we could main Druid an entire expansion. In its present state, certainly not, but everything is about to change on Wednesday with the new talent system. We maybe won’t have to cast Starfire 400 times/hour, which is really mind nuking. So, at the moment, our hunters may very well stay our main characters for Dragonflight.

Edit 3: The Secret Lab chair is harder but the armrests are much better placed and feel softer on our elbows. Also, we’re getting used to the harder backrest. However, both chairs have pros and cons, we need more time to decide.

The Haunted in Connecticut

When the Campbell family moves to Connecticut, they soon learn that their charming Victorian home has a disturbing history: not only was the house a transformed funeral parlor where inconceivable acts occurred, but the owner’s clairvoyant son Jonah served as a demonic messenger, providing a gateway for spiritual entities to crossover. (source: IMDB)

The movie is really well made, the writing is powerful and the acting is excellent. So why only 3 stars? All the ingredients are there to make me love it, yet I just manage to like it.

Maybe haunted mansion stories didn’t manage to scare me anymore? But it’s not the case, since The Enfield Poltergeist (The Conjuring 2) is one of my favourite horror movies. However, by comparing these two movies that I finally found out what’s wrong with The Haunting in Connecticut: it doesn’t manage to build a feeling of terror, while The Conjuring 2 does it perfectly.

When an horror movie is supposed to be creepy, it has to create a deep sense of threat, the malevolent entity has to inspire a sense of terror. The Haunting in Connecticut, while dark doesn’t do any of that. I guess that the story of the sick kid and the unnecessary drunk father overshadows the occult part of the movie.

Anyway, it’s not a bad horror movie but, with such a potential, it’s sad that it doesn’t manage to hit its mark.

By the way, Ed and Lorraine Warren, who are known for involvement in The Enfield Poltergeist case, were also investigators for this case.

We’ll be there!

That’s right, we’ve done it! We’ve purchased Dragonflight.

At first, we were really not hyped, the announcement was underwhelming (those scripted discussions around a table, yuk!), the Drachtyr looked (and still do) ugly and we didn’t catch anything exciting.

During the last months, we’ve learned more about the new zones, dragon flying, the extra mat stash, the new UI and the return of the Kalu’aks. Now, the hype is real.

Also, don’t think that we could ever skip a World of Warcraft expansion, especially if it’s set to be released by the end of the year. Christmas trees and new stories really make the best time of the year.

See you in the Dragon Isles!

It Follows

What would you do if you were followed by an entity that slowly walks toward you and kills you when it reaches you, no matter where you go? It cannot be stopped nor killed. The only way to get rid of it is to pass it on to someone by having sex with him/her, like a twisted game of “tag”.

This movie was one of our favorite horror movies of the last decade, and I can’t believe that we never wrote anything about it… The plot is amazing and the casting is excellent. It has a great vibe and a sense of dread that is felt almost immediately.

The characters are not the usual horror idiot that makes you think “why didn’t they do this or that…”. They address the danger as real people would, they’re not magically filled with some convenient insight and they’re not face-palmingly idiotic, either.

It was already a rerun, and we’ll probably watch it again, some day.

A Promotional Week-End

If you didn’t see the 50 millions Proto-Drakes flying around, then you probably still don’t know about the free mount offered to your retail account if you create a Death Knight on a Classic server and walk him through the starting scenario.

We did it together and, while we were doing it exclusively for the mount, we had a ton of fun following Arthas’ commands, killing innocent people, stealing horses and torturing crusaders, a real blast from the past!

Look at us, all proud on our Frostbrood Proto-Wyrms!

While it made us very nostalgic of our favourite expansion, I don’t think that we could go through it all over again. The past is the past and I would be afraid to spoil a perfect memory. Also, we love what retail has become and we’re both looking forward to Dragonflight.

On Saturday evening, we’ve also connected our Twitch accounts to our Amazon Prime and Battle.net to get the Crown of Eternal Winter for free. So many blue/white transmogs could benefit from that awesome crown, we didn’t want to let it pass.

Dark Iron Dwarves

Last week, we wanted to test the Elemental spec, but the only high level shamans that we have are Dark Iron Dwarves. The spec didn’t really work well for us, but the race was so awesome that it became impossible to go back to our Blood Elves.

After a few days of hesitation, we finally changed our main characters’ faction, joined the Alliance and became Dark Iron Dwarves.

We already wanted to change our hunters’ race for a few weeks. We both tried Orcs, but it was too bulky. I tried Goblin, but I really didn’t have the click. Finally, we went back to Blood Elves but we really weren’t happy… After a few minutes as Dark Iron Dwarves, we knew that we had made the right choice. We’ve had a blast the entire week-end!

Now, we need to find a new server because Draenor is almost exclusively Horde and it’s not easy to tag mobs when you’re the only one from the Alliance. The most Alliance populated European server is Silvermoon. I think that we would jump there without hesitation, but I ‘m not sure that it’s a good idea to choose a full server before a release. The other option is to go to Argent Dawn, where the queues will probably be shorter, but it’s a bit too quiet there lately.

Decisions, decisions,…

They’ve Caught The Puppet Master

The Belgian police has arrested Robert Hendy-Freegard – aka The Puppet Master – in Groot-Bijgarden, Brussels (pretty close to where I live, actually).

He’s a famous British conman who masqueraded an MI5 agent to coerce money out of people and to pressure them to do his bidding. If you wanna know more about him, I advise you to watch the Netflix documentary The Puppet Master: Hunting the Ultimate Conman, it’s very entertaining.

One last question won’t probably be answered… While most of his victims were coerced, the woman with whom he disappeared didn’t seem persuaded to follow him. Her kids seem certain that he dragged her into his schemes, the way he did with his previous victims, but I’m not sure that she didn’t follow him willingly.

Apparently, Freegard and Sandra Clifton were working in the beagle breeding business in the French country and performing in pedigree shows. To me, it doesn’t feel very glamorous, but who knows what her previous life really was like.

Anyway, it’s not the first time that the Puppet Master gets caught… He already received a life sentence for his past crimes. He was freed after the conviction was overturned by the court of appeals. Who knows if they’ll manage to keep him, this time.

Fuck Summer!

Summer sucks! It’s too warm to do anything and we’re more than tired to binge while waiting for the heatwaves to pass. Fortunately, last week-end was fresher and we could game again. We enjoyed our second round of fated raids, we ran through 5 Timewalking dungeons and we completed a few achievements.

While waiting for rares to spawn in The Maw, we started to play with our Christmas toys, it was amazing. Take that, crappy season, it’s Winter when we say it is!

Now, the sun is back and I hope that we’re facing our last 30°C week for the year, it’s been too long!

Piranha 3D

After a sudden underwater tremor sets free scores of the prehistoric man-eating fish, an unlikely group of strangers must band together to stop themselves from becoming fish food for the area’s new razor-toothed residents.

Source: IMDB

So we’ve watched Piranha 3D in 2D because we don’t have a 3D TV (yet), nor do we have 3D glasses (which would be cool, if we had a 3D TV). So if, like me, you’re a sad person who’s looking for the movie in its 2D version, the title is “Piranha”. It’s as simple as that.

Where most Jaws-like movies only tease with a few kills but fail to deliver on any real confrontation, Alexandre Aja created a fantastic gore fest at the beach. I won’t spoil anything by saying that some scenes look as if a giant lawnmower was being used under the water, where hundreds of teens are swimming.

Eli Roth spraying water at the girls during the wet t-shirt contest

There are few happy surprises in the cast: Elisabeth Shue (as the sheriff), Steve R. McQueen (Jeremy from Vampire Diaries) and Eli Roth.

We went with low expectations but we had a total blast. Now, we’ve read that the sequel is far from being as good… However, we’ll watch it because 1. David Hasselhof plays in it 2. It’s getting warm again and there isn’t much to do with such a heat.

Taming All the Pets

This week, after crossing a very cool Goblin Hunter who was running with Stinky at his side, I realized that I couldn’t tame all the pets in Azeroth. I don’t know how this happened, but I completely forgot about the existence of the taming tomes.

After running the macros below, I noticed that I was still missing Gargons, Cloud Serpents and Blood Beasts.

/run for k,v in pairs({['Blood Beasts']=54753,['Undead']=62255,['Cloud Serpents']=62254,['Gargon']=61160})do print(format('%s: %s', k, C_QuestLog.IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(v) and '\124cff00ff00Yes\124r' or '\124cffff0000No\124r')) end
/run for k,v in pairs({['Direhorns']=138430,['Mechanicals']=205154,['Feathermanes']=242155})do print(format('%s: %s', k, IsPlayerSpell(v) and '\124cff00ff00Yes\124r' or '\124cffff0000No\124r')) end

Here is the lists of all the tomes and where to find them (from Wowhead):

The first new pets that I tamed were Stinky and Precious from Icecrown Citadel. After taming these magnificent pets, I continued to the Lich King and he dropped a Drudge Ghoul, yay!
