This movie is the perfect example of why we blog about all the horror movies we watch… We had already seen it and we completely forgot about it. Now, I should definitely create an alphabetical list of the horror movies we’ve seen…

Cool folks cross West Virginia but their car broke down in the middle of a forest inhabited by inbred cannibal rednecks (or is it inbred redneck cannibals, is there even a protocol about this?). Anyway, no big surprise here, we loved the original Wrong Turn and we can’t wait to watch the next 5 chapters.

Trivia

  • It features Jeremy Sisto (6 feet under), Desmond Harrington (Dexter) and Eliza Dushku (Buffy). (source: me)

Night Stalker

We enjoy watching documentaries on Sunday at lunch. And we’ve been spoiled during the last 4 weeks with an awesome reportage about the killer who terrorised the residents of Los Angeles and San Francisco from June 1984 until August 1985.

Through the recounting of the two detectives who were assigned to the case, we get to relive chronologically the murder spree until the arrest of the serial killer.

Richard Ramirez invaded homes, murdered men, women and kids. He also raped women and kids of all age. He pretended doing so under the influence of Satan but, in the end, he was just a kid who grew surrounded by the wrong folks.

He was brainwashed by his cousin who shown him pictures of the atrocities he committed during his tours in Vietnam. Bad influence and drugs are what pushed Ramirez to cross the line. However, he was supported by a group of people who were attracted to him for his dark, satanic aura. In the end, I don’t knows who’s the most pathetic, the killer who said “The Devil made me do it” or the people following him because, you know, Satan and stuff…

Wrong Turn (2021)

I love horror movies, but it seems that, lately, the genre gets mistaken with psychological thriller, and I hate psychological thrillers. This movie is a real horror movie, where kids go to a forest and stumble upon redneck, cannibals, yetis,… In fact, I don’t care upon what they stumble, as long as it gets bloody.

Wrong Turn is just that, a slasher movie. It made Saturday evening perfect, or was it my wife’s vegetarian lasagna? Anyway, we had a great evening and it shined over the rest of our week-end, making me realise how much I had missed my Saturday evening horror movie.

I’ve never seen a Wrong Turn movie before this reboot, so I can’t compare with the originals. But this was certainly the best advertisement possible for the franchise and I have the feeling that we’re about to have 6 great Saturday evenings, watching more kids being slaughtered by cannibals in the woods.

Little Nightmares

Since I had so much fun playing the demo of Little Nightmares 2, I’ve been willing to try the first game of the franchise. I completed it earlier this week on PC and it was really fun. It took me a bit more than 5 hours to reach the end of the adventure.

The creepiest place to me was the kitchen, probably because the cooks look terrifying. I may be wrong, but I don’t think that the people at Tarsier are meat lovers…

The game was smooth and I haven’t encountered any frustrating moment. When it comes to gaming, my favourite rule is “A good game is like a good joke, it requires no explanation”. While I love the design of the game and the gruesome ambiance, it’s especially the gameplay that I enjoy, it’s simple to handle and is a perfect compromise between puzzles and action.

I’ll probably play the second Little Nightmares 2 very soon, unless I’d play this one again, to collect all the dolls and jump on all the mattresses. Because, yes, there’s even an achievement for that.

Gibbous – A Cthulhu Adventure

From crazy cultists to a talking cat, Gibbous takes you on quite an adventure where you explore a Lovecraft inspired world as three protagonists.

Like most adventure games, some puzzles defied all logic, which made me sometimes have a peak at a walk-through guide. Even though, I must admit I’m not always the most patient, and probably would have figured it all out by contemplation and time. Nevertheless, Gibbous was quite fun with a mostly freed game play, and an unexpected ending.

One of the things I love most is the art style, it’s hand-painted and gloomy, perfect for a Lovecraft inspired story. I’m also glad that it was Cthulhu heavy, unlike some stories that are supposed to be Cthulhuesque but miss out on all the elements. From the order of Dagon to Curven to the tentacles, and the insanity, they didn’t miss a thing. These guys in Transylvania got it all right.

It’s a Diablo Blizzcon!

I’m in Heaven right now and I’ll probably be for a few years. Yes, you read well: YEARS! Diablo 2, the game that ruined my first university years but made the rest of my life better is about to be “resurrected”. Even better, it’ll be released on or before December 2021, which instantly makes this year a great one, filled with news, hype and a huge countdown.

We’ve watched the Diablo II: Resurrected Deep Dive panel and it seems that the remaster is in very capable hands. The folks at Vicarious Visions are very committed to bring Diablo 2 to modern days graphics while keeping the experience as close as possible to the original. Also, we get a shared stash!

The new Diablo 4 class, the Rogue, was announced and it looks amazing, with a mix of range and melee attacks. The trailer is pretty dark, which is a good thing. Diablo 4 development is moving on and it feels great to know that there are so many great things ahead for the Diablo fans.

As if it wasn’t great enough, Blizzard had Metallica perform “For Whom the Bell Tolls” in a studio version exclusively recorded for the Blizzcon.

Oh, I almost forgot, something was said about Diablo Immortal but I didn’t really pay attention. While My initial attitude toward it was pure hate, I think that I’ll probably give it a try anyway but, even if it’s amazing, I doubt that it’ll change my attitude toward phone games.

We’ve spent the morning listening to Metallica and we’ll probably spend the rest of the day playing Diablo 3 and watching all the Diablo panels from the Blizzcon. Life is better than good!

Blizzconline – My Wishlist

The online Blizzcon begins tonight.

What would make me ecstatic:

  • Diablo 2 remastered is announced and will be released later this year;
  • Diablo 4 will soon enter closed alpha;
  • We get to see the trailer of the Netflix Diablo show.

What I would consider “acceptable”:

  • Diablo 2 remastered is announced but no date is given;
  • Diablo 4 will enter closed alpha by the end of the year;
  • We get to see some concept art from the Netflix Diablo show.

What is probably gonna be happen:

  • Diablo Immortal will be released in June.

We’ve Watched Buffy

Voilà, we’ve finally seen the last episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer…

When it first came out, in the 90s, I refused to watch it. Sarah Michelle Gellar was just too much of those blondes we loved to hate during the grunge time. She looked like a Paris Hilton with a brushing. I always wondered why she wore high heels and was dressed as if she was walking her puddle in the streets of New York… If you have to spend your nights in a graveyard, waiting for vampires to rise, wouldn’t you want to dress accordingly?

But, since last year, we try to catch back on those pieces of pop culture that we might have missed because of made up ideas, and Buffy was one of them.

Let’s be honest, on seven seasons, only three are good (1, 2 & 7), the rest goes from total garbage to barely watchable. Most of the actors can’t act and I’m not surprised that we haven’t seen them anywhere else. Also, even if the show is about slaying vampires, it seems that the entire plot revolves around Buffy falling in love with (and shagging) them (as depicted in the image above).

But, even if we wanted to stop watching the show many times, especially when it takes 3 full episodes for her mother to die (oops spoiler, sorry), I’m glad that we made it until the end. Buffy is a monument in fantastic and pop culture and it kept us entertained during many evening dinners. Now, let’s see what Angel is about…

Our Favourite Fargo

We’ve seen the third season and it’s without any doubt our favourite. We’re fan of the entire franchise (except maybe the fourth season), but the third season is so incredibly good.

The casting is out of this world! Ewan MacGregor playing both Stussy brothers, David Thewlis as Varga, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Nicky, Carrie Coon as Gloria and Ray Wise as… God? Each character is fantastic and perfectly portrayed.

Even if each scene contributes to create the “Fargo ambiance”, some scenes are above and beyond, like when Nicky survives a manhunt and ends up in a bowling alley, having a drink with Ray Wise.

We are now suffering of post-Fargo depression, with a fourth season that doesn’t really feel part of the franchise…

Building the Falcon – Step 2

We’ve completed the second step of the Millennium Falcon. Instead of a picture of the build, we’ve tried something new: we’ve recorded a timelapse. I won’t publish the next videos until the process is complete, so I can make one that will cover the entire build. It will take a while though, since the build is divided in 17 steps and we only work on it once a week. I’ve recorded the video with an iPhone 11 Pro max and a Neewer holder mounted on a Vanguard photography tripod.
