If I had to give you one advice, in case you’d get lost in a snow storm, it would be: don’t seek refuge in an abandoned sanatorium. However, if you have no choice, just hide, don’t make noise and wait for the storm to quiet down, then leave.
Of course, if people would follow these advises, there would be no movie about young folks getting slaughtered (and eaten) by cannibals, and the world would lose a great source of entertainment.
It seems that, with each sequel, the Wrong Turn franchise gets more gore and more sex. We still have 2 more chapters to watch and I wonder where this is gonna lead us… Anyway, it was a good horror movie, perfect for a Saturday evening. I’m actually surprised to see how different each Wrong Turn turns out to be, while keeping on the same topic.
Oh, one last thing: I’d advise against watching this movie while eating a fondue, trust me.
While rafting, four college kids are attacked by the mutant cannibal hillbilly Three Finger. Meanwhile, a group of dangerous criminals are transported from the West Virginia Grafton Penitentiary. The bus is hit by a tow truck driven by Three Finger and falls off the road. The prisoners and a guard, led by Carlo Chavez accidentally meet Alex, the lone survivor of the college kids.
I enjoy to watch college kids being slaughtered by cannibals, I wouldn’t watch all 7 episodes of Wrong Turn if I wouldn’t. But for the first time, the cannibal’s murder spree felt righteous, those prisoners were unbearable and to see them dismembered by Three Finger felt more rewarding than usual. Oops, I should have warned for the spoilers… But did anyone really thought that the prisoners would survive?
PS: I could have used an image of the girl on the left having her boob pierced by Three Finger’s arrow but I wouldn’t want to shock my readers sensibility. Also teens in bikinis smoking weed while giving the finger isn’t so bad.
We’re in the middle of an X-Files rerun and the fifth season is probably the best so far. After being treated with an excellent episode about the origin of the lone gunmen, we had what was probably our best X-Files evening with a black and white homage to Frankenstein.
Mulder and Scully find themselves investigating reports of a monster known as the Great Mutato in a small Indiana town after a woman reaches out to them to find out why and how she was rendered unconscious only to wake days later impregnated. They are led to a geneticist whose experiments resulted in the creation of Mutato, who was rejected and taken in by the doctor’s father who wanted to help create a mate for his new friend. Later, the townspeople come to realise that Mutato isn’t the real monster, it’s the doctor, leaning heavily on the themes of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus. The episode ends with Mulder and Scully taking Mutato to a Cher concert.
Cher was asked to appear as herself, but decided against it, as it was just a scene of her singing, not really giving her much of a chance to act. However, the Post-Modern Prometheus is now regarded as one of the best episodes of The X-Files, leading to Chris Carter being nominated for Outstanding Directing by the Directors Guild of America, as well as seven Emmy Awards nominations, winning for Outstanding Art Direction. Cher is said to have noted that if she knew how good the episode would have turned out, she would have agreed to appear.
This documentary is the ultimate tribute to Deep Space Nine. Soforah and I slowly became “niners” throughout the years and, now, it has become our favourite show in the Trek universe, if not in the entire world of TV shows.
We love the story, the setting and the universe of DS9 but what makes it special is the character development. Each character has been so fantastically matured during each episode that watching the show is like growing with them. That’s exactly what this documentary puts in the spotlights, the characters and the actors behind them.
During the show, Ira Behr and his team work on what would be a new DS9 season. While I’d be very excited to see it happen, I’m also scared that it would damage something as perfect as DS9.
Anyway, if you even remotely enjoyed Star Trek – Deep Space Nine, you have to watch this documentary, not only for the nostalgia but also to realise just how much pioneering the show was.
The documentary begins with Max Grodénchik singing and, if you stick long enough, you’ll see Jeffrey Combs, Casey Biggs, Armin Shimerman and Max Grodénchick singing through the credits and it’s an absolute delight.
It’s been a year since the confinement has started. One of the games that has entertained us the most is Animal Crossing New Horizons. It has constantly brought good mood, relaxation and sunshine in our lives.
Yesterday evening, my island, Lonestar, has finally received a 5 stars rating. I still have to upgrade my house twice and my museum collection isn’t complete but I’ll happily spend another year running around my happy place.
Sabrina goes High School Musical and it makes the most corny among us cringe.
I remember watching the first season of this tv-show and being surprised on how much I liked this new version of Sabrina. It’s darker with a satanic twist and has more gorey scenes compared to the original series, which instantly got me hooked.
Then came the dreaded third season, it was such a disappointment. The great witchy adventures turned into a cringe worthy Scooby club meets High School Musical, I absolutely hated it. In season four, you feel that they’re trying to pick back up from where they’ve started, but it still has huge ups and downs. Too bad, cause this could have been such a great TV-show.
I wonder if there’ll be a fifth season, until now the show seems to have been cancelled, but you never know these days… If it won’t be renewed, I’ll miss the show never the less. I really like dark witches, don’t ask me why. I guess it must be my utmost repect for characters with a stong personality, unlike all of those Disney princesses out there. Like the actress, Kiernan Shipka, the show grew on me. At the beginning, I thought Ms. Shipka was a poor choice for Sabrina Spellman, but the further the story advances, the more I liked her. One of my favourite Sabrina-scenes so far (also; I really love this song of Billy Idol):
Will this be the last one? Or will there be more chilling adventures coming our way one day? Only netflix can tell.
Five minutes into the movie and a woman already gets cut in half with an axe… Yes, that’s right, the guy (cannibal, ofc) is dragging one half of the woman (his share of the dinner, probably). Such a start already gives the tone: the second chapter is much more gore than the first. Nothing is spared: decapitations, guts, brains, stew prepared with human parts (and eaten)… It’s a real slaughterfest!
The setting is a bit different than in a classic slasher. Instead of a bunch of city folks on holidays, the victims are participating to a reality show in which they have to survive a simulated apocalypse. Too bad that the show happens on the hunting ground of an inbred redneck cannibal family (what a surprise). The host of the show is none other than Henry Rollins.
I don’t think that the movie is the best slasher that’s ever been made, but the amount of OMG gore scenes makes up for the poor quality of the story. After all, who watches a slasher for its scenario. We want guts and that’s exactly what we get.
There are only three TV shows that I would give a 10 on 10: Star Trek – Deep Space Nine, Star Trek – Voyager and Breaking Bad. We love them so much that we watch them every Sunday evening for more than 15 years. Last Sunday, we’ve completed a rerun of Deep Space Nine and I can say that it still deserves its place as one of our favourite TV shows ever.
Sunday evening is not the funniest evening of the week, it’s the end of the only two days left free by our corporate overlords. As such, it’s an evening filled with anxiety. Deep Space Nine, with its soothing opening credits and and its far-from-this-world theme has helped us make of that evening a soft transition between the freedom of the week-end and the return to the endless grind that are our daily jobs.
I could talk for hours about what makes it so special to us but its real quality lies within the casting and the character development. From the friendship between Odo and Qwark, O’Brien and Bashir or Jake and Nog to the hatred between Sisqo and Dukat, the relationships between the characters are evolving through each adventure lived by the crew of the space station, until its conclusion in the last episode titled “What You Leave Behind”. When you spend months watching characters going through hundreds of different scenarios, it almost feels as if you’ve lived with them…. So, when we reach the conclusion, it’s always very emotional. I’d lie if I would say that our eyes weren’t a bit red when we watched the show finale.
This Sunday, we’ll start a rerun of Voyager. Another crew, other adventures…
This movie is the perfect example of why we blog about all the horror movies we watch… We had already seen it and we completely forgot about it. Now, I should definitely create an alphabetical list of the horror movies we’ve seen…
Cool folks cross West Virginia but their car broke down in the middle of a forest inhabited by inbred cannibal rednecks (or is it inbred redneck cannibals, is there even a protocol about this?). Anyway, no big surprise here, we loved the original Wrong Turn and we can’t wait to watch the next 5 chapters.

We enjoy watching documentaries on Sunday at lunch. And we’ve been spoiled during the last 4 weeks with an awesome reportage about the killer who terrorised the residents of Los Angeles and San Francisco from June 1984 until August 1985.
Through the recounting of the two detectives who were assigned to the case, we get to relive chronologically the murder spree until the arrest of the serial killer.
Richard Ramirez invaded homes, murdered men, women and kids. He also raped women and kids of all age. He pretended doing so under the influence of Satan but, in the end, he was just a kid who grew surrounded by the wrong folks.
He was brainwashed by his cousin who shown him pictures of the atrocities he committed during his tours in Vietnam. Bad influence and drugs are what pushed Ramirez to cross the line. However, he was supported by a group of people who were attracted to him for his dark, satanic aura. In the end, I don’t knows who’s the most pathetic, the killer who said “The Devil made me do it” or the people following him because, you know, Satan and stuff…
